"Personally in my life, what has been much more "irreparable" than the effects of testosterone is the homophobia instilled in me from my conservative Christian family and community." - Anonymous |
"stirring the pot here i do think it is medically unethical in MOST if not all cases to prescribe cross sex hormones to adult patients (in all cases to minors) but i do NOT think it sets an appropriate precedent for that decision to be relegated to the state. it is dangerous and short sighted for feminists (radical or otherwise) to cooperate with the right wing’s attempts at legislating medical care for adults. even in the best case scenario, this is state control over bodily autonomy which is like. so obviously a bad thing for women, those with chronic illnesses, homosexual people, autistic people, gender nonconforming people, those who are imprisoned, and literally everybody else. obviously the medical industry needs to be held accountable for malpractice but 1) medicine functioning as a capitalist industry which supplies treatments according to demand for profit is not going to be fixed by state control over patients’ and providers’ decisions and 2) state control over medical decisions is literally dangerous. laws that restrict physicians’ ability to provide/patients’ ability to access medical care is just not the answer to ethics issues. the state is not an ethical entity, nor is it qualified to make medical decisions." - bluerotundas |
